Head Coach
Peter Mills brings decades of experience and an unparalleled track record to his role as Head Coach at the Auckland Rowing Club. With a coaching career spanning over 30 years, Peter has guided athletes at every level, from school rowers to Olympians, achieving phenomenal success.

Peter’s crews have claimed multiple New Zealand National Premier Rowing Titles across a variety of boat classes. On the international stage, he has coached crews to exceptional results, including Phillipa Baker’s gold medal in the lightweight single sculls at the 1991 World Championships and a Commonwealth Games gold medal in 1994. In 2024, Peter was the Rowing NZ U21 women’s sweep coach.

Peter’s Postgraduate Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science (Top Graduate, 2017) underpins his extensive knowledge of physiology and biomechanics, which he uses to help athletes optimise their technique and maximise performance. Beyond rowing, Peter has mentored coaches and contributed to the development of New Zealand rowing talent for decades.
